The New England Revolution will name Marko Mitrovic as the club’s next head coach, sources tell The Athletic. Mitrovic just led the United States to a quarterfinal finish at the U-20 World Cup, losing out to eventual champion Morocco. He also coached the United States men’s soccer team at the Olympics in 2024, guiding the team to the quarterfinals. Mitrovic will help tap into the club’s growing academy and youth development pipeline, which has vastly increased in recent years. Vanni Sartini and Josh Wolff were also finalists for the role, sources say. Mitrovic was an assistant coach under Veljko Paunovic with the Serbian youth national team, including when it won the 2015 U-20 World Cup, as well as with the Chicago Fire and Reading. Mitrovic then joined the United States youth coaching ranks. The New England job is an attractive one, as the squad is headlined by former MLS MVP Carles Gil. Mitrovic will have a chance to work with high-level academy graduates like Peyton Miller and others. The club has produced the likes Noel Buck and Esmir Bajraktarević in recent years, and seen them graduate from the academy to the first team.
